4G Service - Still Out Across the Nation?

A quick Google search shows tons and tons of angry customers without 4G service that just aren't getting answers.  I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone last night, first with a tech rep who thought I should just turn it on and off and remove the LTE sim card, before sending me to someone who knew what he was doing, that essentially did nothing but make me do the same thing, and then tell me he was alerting the "Network Team" -

Still nothing back, still no 4G service, but the worst part?  Not a word from Verizon.  No official announcements, not even on their own discussion forum?  I get if they don't want to look bad for potential new customers but come on, you have how many thousands of people without service now and NO update?  Going on 15+ hours since this started?  That's ridiculous.

i have had issues with the 4g phones since july 15,2011..i originally got the htc thunderbolt had continually had problems with that phone from it shutting itself off and on several times a day, no internet coverage,i could hear people but they couldnt hear me. in a 2 month period i went through 3 htc thunderbolts and numerous phone calls to tech support until the 3rd htc and last discussion with tech support the guy told me they were having issues with the htc something to do with the google program and verizon was waiting for a fix from the maker..i finally complained enough and thanks to my local verizon store manager who sympathized with me let me trade in my htc for the samsung charge which worked fine for about 20 days(past my 14days return) then it started to shut itself off and on as well (thank you google) and the interet started working intermittently as well..4g would not work and 3g would work fine when i manually turned it on..verizon finally switched that phone out for me..worked fine from about august till now (january 10th). my second charge started not working on the 4g system in flint,mi..i called tech support and did all there quick fixes from turning off/on, pulling battery and sim card , to manually doing master resets. then when making phone calls while talking to people this loud screach would come across my phone speaker where i couldnt hear the person talking but they couldnt hear the screach and when calling in to verizon i was told this was a KNOWN ISSUE. and  they swapped my phone out for me again (3rd charge). and the 4g works intermittently at night???(maybe doing work or updating) but seems to be working in the daytime???...hopefully last phone will work??lol...lets see 6 4g phones in 7 months ..good track record..

Two different types of phones, same issue after a few days with all 6 phones. Classic app conflict or a corrupt app.

Geez, people.... calm down! 😉

I just switched from Sprint (4G) to Verzion, and the data connectivity/speeds (all I care about) are STELLAR !!!

The speeds I get on Verizon's 3G are even faster than Sprint's 4G - at least in area code 60195 (approx. 10 Miles West of O'Hare Airport).

I take an occasional LTE Outage now and then over the poor speeds I get with Sprint anytime. Even though I liked Sprint's service (and pricing) and have nothing bad to say about the, I'm so much happier on Verizon right now, because it's so much more value I'm getting (yes, I'm also paying $30 more - so what?).

The question I always like to pop when seeing Sprint's unlimited data Commercials on TV:

"How good is unlimited data if it's so slow that can't really use it for anything else than reading e-mails, newsfeeds or (simple) websites?" And mind you, I live in greater Chicago - not Kyrgyzstan!

You may want to keep that in mind -and everything in perspective - when complaining about an occasional LTE outage...

Just my 2 cent...

There is one problem with your 2 cents... what about the rest of us? Did you notice how far back this goes? This is more than an occasional annoyance. We are glad your service works. Maybe that is because you live near O'Hare. Now think back to those reasons you are willing to pay more for Verizon and understand why we are upset.

AGAIN I DO NOT HAVE EVEN 3G! It seems clear that the "company" is not monitoring their own forum since there have been zero "company" responses to these complaints. I came looking for answers but have found none! I wish I could switch to Sprint.

I have a 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot.  I live in the midwest - Illinois.  The service has drastically gotten worse in the last couple weeks.  When I first got the MIFI, I was getting 4G reception and the speed was, at times, 14 to 18 mbps.  Now, I'm barely registering 1.208 mbps for download speed (infospeed.verizon.net: http://my.verizon.com/micro/speedtest/broadband/).  The device used to stay on 4G almost all the time and rarely 3G, now it switches to 3G all the time.  The internet connection is slow and always locks up or drops service.  I don't know if it's because it's so slow, or because it drops the network connection when it switches to 3G, but I can't hardly use the internet for more than 2 minutes without losing coverage/connection.  I have heard this same story from others using the device in my area.  Something has changed with their network or a tower somewhere or something.  This is unacceptable.

I heard from someone else that they may need to look at their NOC (network operation center/monitor).  They may have a tower out that is not reporting it's down.

The signal is terrible, they said it themselves.  You can check your signal by going in to the device via the IP address under Configuration>Diagnostics>then click Modem Status.  The EVDO number is 3G and the LTE is the 4G.  The higher the number, the worse the signal.  Anything close to 100 or larger is horrible.  Mine is registering 92 to 101.

I called verizon yesterday and opened a "case" and am waiting for them to call me back.

The problem is how close one is to a tower and obstructions (according to Verizon). I am 2 miles from a tower, my home is on the highest hill within a 5 mile radius, yet Verizon admits I am in a "bad area" for reception. 2 miles, for me, isn't close enough...According to the "map coverage" on Verizon's site, I should have not only 3g but 4g. They SELL service agreements based on that information...based on those promises. They "did the math" and determined a price to charge everyone despite the fact that not everyone is receiving the same coverage. Therefore, why am I paying for something I am not getting? Every month, the same charge and every month far less than acceptable service. In my area (south/east Michigan) Verizon and ATT wireless DOES NOT WORK the way they both SELL themselves and promise (for wireless internet). My local (20 year veteran) "computer guy" tells his customers this: go Comcast land-line. The reason everyone is so upset is because Verizon isn't/can't/won't ADMIT they are at fault here and they run us around the block with foolish and insulting rhetoric. I understand that they are up a creek...thousands if not millions of account holders who MAY and CAN cancel their service, leaving Verizon possibly bankrupt...but we don't FORCE the issue...we complain to each other and pay our monthly dues to Verizon...and wait while they continue to advertise 4g and sell 4g to more and more folks. Everyone knows this is Verizon's problem...not ours. Yet, Verizon would point the finger at us...shameful. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me.

Verizon doesn' promise coverage all the time. No carrier does... There's a slew of factors that'll affect reception... 4G is going to have the most hiccups until their network is completed.

Also do you go to neighborhood board meetings? Do you go to your congressman? Here in Hawaii for example the Mililani district board refused towers to be built in their district for YEARS and everyone in Mililani were complaining about coverage. You'd be surprised what gets accepted and blocked or what doesn't make it to the table at your district board meetings. That doesn't include the laws Hawaii has with blocking the Skyline dependant on altitude(its kind of stupid and affects A LOT of other areas).

You missed my point. My homework indicated (via their website and sales persons) that Verizon's coverage area for 3g and 4g included my area. Even when I type in my address I show coverage for both at certain speeds. My speed tests are a contradiction to what I was told, and sold on. They can't charge the same monthly fees to EVERYONE and not provide the same service to everyone. I know this is just how things are "these days', but it doesn't make it RIGHT, and it just gets wronger and wronger every day...I give up trying to explain the obvious.

If Verizon would have told me BEFORE I signed the contract the thing they KNEW before I signed the contract, I wouldn't have signed the contract. It;s not that I don't get 4g...it's that the 3g I do get is very slow. Typically it takes me 3-4 minutes just to get my home page., Many times just downloading my gmail, the system times out. The only way we KNOW whether we will receive a decent signal is how? By signing a contract which we can only get out of by forking over an early termination fee. If that is what you call fair business practice...

If you read the contract you would have seen they do not promise coverage 100% of the time, and they describe some factors that speed can br affected by. 🙂

Also you had time to cancel your contract to see how good your signal will be...

I still have issues with one location.  I think it has more to do with the number of people in that area connecting to the network and the building that I am located inside when I have most of the problems.  Once I go outside the reception improves greatly.  I am still satisfied with the coverage I get even with these issues.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

My service was fair for the first few months. I believe that Verizon is making promises they can't keep, plain and simple.. This goes to fair business practice. Planet-wide we see the "issues" that too fast growth results in. Companies don't proceed with caution, they see dollar signs and sell products and services at lightening speed but can't maintain services adequately. This is true for consumers as well. The debt crisis speaks to that. My fault was trusting in a service that is un-trustworthy. I would bet that over 50% of the US population does not fully understand the nature of "internet". Just as we don't all understand how cars work. All we care about is that we can use the products and services we are sold. We trust them to do the homework for us, not the other way around. Having been in the service industry for 35 years, I am well aware of implied promises, contracts, and buyer beware. Yet, we trust a company's representatives to impart relevant information related to our decision whether to enter into an agreement for services with them. I just wish Verizon would stop with "can you hear me now?". It implies to the consumer that service is everywhere, when in fact it isn't. ATT is just as guilty. I'm angry that SO many people aren't getting satisfaction..aren't getting the truth..and are stuck with too few options...if we could all build our own towers..

You can. Put up $750,000 for it and it's yours.

You have two weeks to try the service before you're obligated to keep the service. Read all those words on that sheet of paper that says "contract" on it before you sign the dotted line.
