4G Speeds Slow in Charlotte NC

I'm in Charlotte, NC and the area is blanket coverage 4gLTE.  The problem is at lunchtime 11am til about 4pm give or take a few hours the service is just horrible.  During a festival my internet usage is nonexistent.  There is coverage just speeds are very very slow.  So slow to the point that you can't use it.  I can be outside downtown Charlotte looking at a tower with full bars and get less that 0.1Mbps.  Its crazy.  The service is practically unusable.  Here in the hospital I work at, which is in the middle of LTE coverage, those with Iphones on 3g get service fine with fast data.  Those with newer iphones and 4g droids with LTE are at stand still speeds.  I'm not getting the most "reliable" service.  In fact theres basically no data service.

Hi,

I have the same issue.  I am in the 28202 zip code for work and my service is non-existant.  I FINALLY was able to get someone at Verizon to investigate, send a network team, etc. after first raising this issue to VZW back in July.  They acknowledged that there are "areas of opportunity" to improve service.  Apparently fixes are underway however, they were not able to provide a timeline of when the fixes started and/or when they would be complete (which was frustrating).  So now it's just a matter of deciding whether to wait it out or take my business elsewhere.

If what is stated in this article http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2427077,00.asp holds true, then I may wait it out... but I still feel like that's asking a lot of VZW customers.

Hi -

I work in the 28202 zip code also.  I continue to experience the same, slow 4g speed.  After numerous support calls for the last six months, I continue to have poor performance on Verizon Wireless.  I currently use a BlackBerry 9930 smartphone and a Verizon MiFi4510L Jetpack.  I want to connect my BlackBerry to the Jetpack for faster 4g performance.  However, I have to turn off WiFi on my BlackBerry to obtain decent Internet speeds and not use the Jetpack while in the office.  As you know, the BlackBerry is a 3g device.  I have used it as a mobile hotspot instead of the Jetpack to obtain Internet access due to the fact 4g service is so bad in Uptown Charlotte.

When I work from home, the Jetpack works better, but it is not as good as my Time Warner Broadband connection.  If I run http://www.speedtest.net/ on my Jefpack at home, the speed look very good; however, my business laptop is slower compared to the laptop/Time Warner connection.  My goal is to use the Jetpack for work and for home.  I am unsure whether this goal is feasible yet.

I would like to upgrade to a newer smartphone; however, I see no need right now with a slow 4g network.  Maybe AT&T or another carrier can provide faster service.

Getting you back to lightning fast speeds is paramount Kemp_Byrd. I see great coverage in the zip code provided, so you should definitely be able to enjoy it. Please run a speedtest from home and work while your laptop is connect to the mifi and keep us posted.

I live in a small town called Roachdale, Indiana.  According to Verizon, I am supposed to get at least 3G coverage and voice/data coverage in my area.  However, I get dropped calls, no data coverage at all.  Verizon was trying to say it was a problem with my device.  However, I have 2 iPhone 5's and a HTC ONE on this account, and all three devices get the same (NO) coverage.

Be honest on your coverage maps.  Other carriers are.

Wait, you mean there is a possibility that Verizon is embellishing their coverage maps?!?!

@grayrock,

Let's get you the great service you deserve and put a stop to those dropped calls!

I want to take a closer look at the area to see what's going on. What is your zip code? How long have you experienced these challenges with the service? Is this happening only while indoors?

LOL responses like this are why I left Verizon. They just sent me a survey asking why I left. RESPONSES LIKE THIS!!!! It's not your phone. It's their towers. They told me like a bajillion times there were "no known issues." Finally after spamming them with numerous speedtest.net tests during different times of day a network engineer called me and said, "oh, there are issues in your area." Duh. Just leave and go prepaid with another company (I chose AIO). Way better value because I was never getting the 4GLTE I was paying for. We should start a class action lawsuit for all of the monthly fees we paid to this monopolistic, greedy corporation. Not even a bill credit offered. They don't care about you. Here, I'll help, pull your battery and have the same issues. Then call back and reset your device and still have the same issues. Oh, I forgot to tell you you're still paying your bill while they "troubleshoot."

No class action lawsuits are allowed because the US Supreme Court stopped them.

Nice try though.

Good Luck

I have experienced the same issue in uptown Charlotte. Almost zero data service in uptown Charlotte (28202). I have called customer service multiple times over the past 9 months and tried numerous troubleshooting steps Including replacing my phone. Bottom line, it is not my phone. My phone receives very fast data speeds in most areas but uptown during business hours is terrible.  Early morning or evening is fine.  The towers uptown are overwhelmedWith traffic and Verizon has. It built out enough capacity.  I was told I could not get out of my contract without penalty because service at my home is fine (the one place I don't need cellular data).  I was also told that the engineers are working on the issue but 9 months later and the problem is no better.  Every time I see a commercial about Verizon having the most reliable network I want to scream.  If data coverage in uptown Charlotte is important to you then you should consider a provider other than Verizon.

I am disappointed to see that this has been going on so long. I switched to Verizon from Sprint expecting much more. My phone is unusable when in downtown Charlotte. I attend the Panthers games and cannot interact/text with my friends or do any type of app or Internet browsing. It's horrible. Text messages will not come through and I am not able to send any. Has there been any update to an improvement in the service? The bad thing is that as soon as I hit the city limit heading home all the texts come through at one time and service returns to normal. I refuse to think it is my phone. I have tried the restart, the battery pull, etc... I am only one year into my plan and dread the next year of this kind of service. How misleading of Verizon to claim such good service.
