4g to 3g convertion

I have received a new, replacement, thunerbolt phone.  Since 4g service is unavailabe, can someone tell me how to set my phone to 3g.  I leave 75 miles from the nearest verizon center...

The LTE OnOff application or dial *#*#INFO#*#* and select phone information. It may also default to CDMA auto (PRL) mode during the activation.
