4g vs 3g wifi only monthly data cap (5gig)
smartalecktexan

Running MIFI 2200 wireless internet access - 3 pc's - works great, good speed - BUT!  The 5Gigabyte data cap per month is intolerable!  Any word on whether 4g will raise the cap? Would be worth a few dollars more to remove the cap, or at least double it.

Not sure what the 4G plans will be, but I do know that Verizon has recently added a 10GB plan for $80 to the list of plans available for the MIFI.

Well, that would be a welcome improvement, but I'm not sure it would be $20.00 more per month! $10.00 would be more acceptable.

If you go to verizon's "4G" site now, there is a little more information.  While I saw no mention of data caps or a lack of caps, they are suggesting that their 4G service is appropriate for streaming movies, downloading HD movies, watching online TV, and other bandwidth-intensive activities which would blast through a 5 gig limit in less than a day.

This marketing material implies a lack of restrictions on data transfer.

if they really want people to have 4g then they will need to remove data caps otherwise there will be no reason for 4g

I don't see why people think the extra speed is useless with a cap on it. I can tell ya that even with a cap, if I had to get something done online I would prefer it get done faster so I can get on with the rest of my life sooner. Higher caps would be nice, but improved speed is still nice without it.

OK, called Verizon and after some searching Lisa found the $80/10GB plan - went ahead and upgraded.  Maybe we can turn back on the Windows automatic updates.  Still monitor usage tho not daily as had been doing.

Would you believe last time I called and asked about this some "dumb" CSR told me that "yes, I could update to a 10GB plan for $199.99/month! Geeez!  I did not believe her but refused to get into a "discussion" with her (probably a "dumb" blond --- ooops, for all you smart blonds out there, PLEASE forgive me).

And would you believe we seriously considered a $15/month AOl dialup to do our updates/long downloads with!  So for only $5.00 more/month problem solved!

I know someone else that was offered the $199. plan, they just got a second device, and it's cheaper. The new pricing looks okay, though. I expected more for less, but 10GB for $80 isn't too bad, if you use that much. Also... it's not a "CAP" from everything I've seen you can use as much as you want, you just pay $10/GB if you go over the plan.

The blonde rep did not lie to you. Before Verizon had the 80 dllr 10 gig cap, there was the 200 dllr 10 gig cap for people who have global cards and old cards. This 80 dllr 10 gig cap is new and it just shows that verizon is starting to bring prices down. I would have not give the rep a bad time for giving you the right information.

You're probably right - in which case I'm sorry for assuming - she's probably a smart blond after all.  Even when I signed up for the 10/80 plan the rep had to search for a minute or two to find it.
