It's a shame that I've been though two 4G phones and I don't have access to LTE. It's been 3yrs since Verizon introduced 4G LTE and unfortunately it's still not in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. The last time 4G was lit up in NC was back in June of 2012. When I saw that Roanoke Rapids, NC was getting 4G I knew for sure being that I was only 30 minutes away from that city that my town would be covered as well. Little did I know that it wasn't going to happy. So now I'm surrounded buy other 252 areas that are completely covered in 4G, but my poor little town being in the middle of all of it has been forgotten. Verizon has been mostly interested in upgrading towers in the west and the northern states. They don't even care about the Southeastern states. Mainly North Carolina. Scotland Neck, North Carolina to be specific!!!

On the other hand, I am shocked to find 4G LTE in some locations of my state in the middle of the country. These are towns with less than 2000 people.
The last I heard Verizon was expecting to cover their existing 3G footprint by mid 2013. This is earlier than the original end of 2013 they had projected when they first started in the end of 2010.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

They obviously have a plan and are implementing that plan, but can't cover everyone at once.

Mid-2013 the 4GLTE network will be fully rolled out over existing 3G network.
VZW has been aggressively rolling out the 4GLTE network and has the largest 4GLTE network in the country. The rest of the wireless carriers are way behind.
So don't worry! Verizon will have you covered in no time. Patience is key!

I'm with you on that... I have 4G all around me and i'm stuck in a hole. We have been told by my local corp store that we were scheduled for 4G 2 different times over the last year and a half and everyone around us has been turned on but my area.... so frustrating. I can literally drive 10 mins in all 4 directions and be in 4G... but nothing where my house is. I'm next to one of the largest Military bases in the country and majority of population has come from recent transfer of command to Ft Bragg. We have neighborhoods that have more people than some of the towns near us that have 4G....

I did.... I don't doubt they're goal is to cover the 3G area..... but by mid 2013? I hardly think so unless they plan on flipping the switch all at one time.

Actually Verizon barely got 4G start in LATE 2010. So it hasn't even been 2 1/2 years. Second you do realize it takes a long time to cover the entire nation. Thirdly Verizon has rolled out 4G faster than any of the other carriers.
