How far a regular cell tower pick a call?

I was in the city of Moreno valley CA about 9 miles away from where the cell tower is location and the call showing Riverside CA is that normal for this tower to pick up my call or not?

If you received a call from an area code in the Riverside area and you saw the city appear as you received the call, this would be a feature your iPhone includes.
