I'm accruing data usage when I'm connected to wifi

The phone appears to be in "download booster" mode even if not enabled or installed on the phone, hence the LTE and WiFi icons both being illuminated. When WiFi is in use, the LTE should be "grayed out" with only the WiFi signal bars and voice signal bars illuminated. You can verify this by manually disabling cellular data and going to a website when connected to WiFi. Likely a software issue, still costly. Going to the store today to get resolution (or my money back). Had the Galaxy 5s less than 12 hours...

I just want to say that this is ridiculous. In the past month we had to add data 3 times to our already expensive bill. We have been with Verizon for over 6 years now. I kept thinking that my son was not using the WiFi in the house when home. But I kept checking the settings for all our devices and there All set to use the WiFi. I went to Verizon and they said that we are just using that much data. We very well be but 90% of the time we are on WiFi. All our phones Even switch over to WiFi when we are places that we visit often. Verizon is stealing money out of all of our pockets and there seems to be nothing they are doing about it. They want to keep checking the settings and every time the settings are correct. I thought maybe it was just us using that much data, but after seeing all the posts here its really a problem that Verizon needs to fix. Not only fix but reimburse those of us that added extra data each month to get through the month.  Verizon what are going to do about this?

Rob2013, providing you with superior service and excellent customer service is the number one priority here at Verizon Wireless. I am sorry to hear that you feel this way about us lately but we do want to address any concerns you may have. When it comes to the devices and it using the cellular data vs the wifi it is possible to have certain applications set to only update via cellular data or wifi. What kind of phone do you have? We ask this question because even though the device is using the wifi when browsing the internet it is possible for applications to update or sync via the background and that is soemthing that has to be updated via the device only. We will only show data usage on our network when there is physically a connection. We do want to work to find out a resolution for you.

Interesting info. This techie grandma and very long-term Verizon customer is not a happy camper right now. My grandkids and I watched some Netflix movies on my Ellipse 7 tablet the past couple of days while connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal. The mobile data was/is shut off and all data sucking apps stopped. According to the tablet settings, my mobile data usage for Oct 28 to Nov 4 was only 118MB and the Wi-Fi for Oct 30 to Nov 5 is 4.84GB, yet we're being charged as if I was streaming the movies using the mobile package and not using Wi-Fi. The data problem is even worse tonight. I took screenshots of everything yesterday to document the situation from my end. I'm the one whose supposed to be on vacation, not Verizon. Please reimburse us for the extra money we were required to pay for your mistake...and take care of the problem quickly so my granddaughters can continue to watch Tinkerbell on the "pretty pink TV," as they call it. Thanks.

118 megabytes its not 118 gigabytes. Huge difference.

That is a small usage.

The 4.84 gigabytes is huge usage. But you don't pay Verizon for it since its WiFi data.

You are paying for the 118 megabytes. You evidently don't know the difference.

Please don't blame the carrier when you don't know the difference.

why is it that people think when their device is shows how much they use on wi-fi that it means Verizon is going to charge them for that? It's just showing how much you used.

You got me on that one. Personally folks don't know what a kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte and terabyte is.

My iphones last month between the two were 120 MB of usage. And I have unlimited data.
