New LTE-capable phones requires LTE data plan?

This might seem like a silly question, but I'm looking at getting a new phone shortly and know there are some new smartphones coming out. Some of them are LTE-capable. I was wondering if anyone knows if you'll be required to get an LTE data plan, or can you opt for the current, and probably cheaper 3g plan?

im sure they will have a LTE plan it will either be the same as the current 3g or most likely cost more than the 3g plan but who knows until verizon announces something
