Ok, 4g's down. It's new, I get it... but come on. VZW will send me a text message every time I think about changing a setting on my web account, when a bill is due... but they can't send a message letting people know this is down? I suspect in that fancy data center, there would be a way to send a text so people don't waste hours troubleshooting or clearing their phone to factory settings like I did today via an old post (before they acknowledged the issue early hours of 4/27).
That's too much...? Ok, well then how about acknowledging the issue on the web. Not on twitter but on YOUR website where people will go looking. I realize it could be bad for business admitting something isn't working, but guess what... the secret is out folks. Now your just making your customers mad by being so tight lipped about it... that's bad for business too.
Most people who made the leap to 4g will accept some issues, but this is now 24 hours long and nothing from your big red machine.

I would rather they put the effort into fixing the problem
Automating outages seems like it would cause a lot more problems than it would solve..
How long did you trouble shoot your device? I spent 5 mins before I releaized my phone wasn't working correct and called vzw and found out the bad news

Now that the 4G LTE problem "is fixed" - at least here in Detroit. Has anyone noticed slower service? I did speed test this morning due to slower page loads and find about 1/4 speed of pre-outage speed

I have had issues with my 4G not working after a reboot and that is exactly how it played out on my device the other morning, so I said... why not reset it per some suggestions online. Well proved to be a big pain, as the data service was down I had nothing on my phone for the entire day... since I couldn't sync and all.
@VL600 in Detroit. Speed here is good. Upload is slower but download is faster than it had been. My last test was 21939 kbps/ x 5174kbps

4G is back on here in sunny San Diego, and I just ran a speed test:
Date Type Down Up Latency
4/18/11 3G 2.02 Mbps 0.87Mbps 114ms
4/18/11 4G 9.50Mbps 22.41Mbps 88ms
4/28/11 4G 11.98Mbps 22.43Mbps 132ms
My test page, walmart.com, takes just over two seconds to load now, whereas before the outage it took about one second. Looking at the results I suspect this slowdown is due to latency rather than speed.
By way of comparison, my Inspire 4G (AT&T) had a three second latency on walmart.com, which took over six seconds to load.

I sympathize greatly. But this time at least they had a recorded message at the beginning of the customer service 800 # that said (in effect) "We know you're screwed, We're fixing it"
Which is a lot better than what happened here about 3 months ago. The support lines were tied up for an hour/call ! I had to come to this forum to find out what was happening.
I called yesterday, got the message, and was satisfied untill I got to thinking: "How do they know what area I'm in?" So I got a human (in seconds this time) and she said the effected area was The Entire Country. OK, that about covers it.

I'm getting Download of 0.4Mbps and upload of 0.3Mbps
Looks like my aircard can only find 3G signal.... I guess they're still trying to get 4G operational here in Motor City.
I was getting between 3-4Mbps before.

Yeah, Verizon's last Twitter post was 17 hours ago. BTW, here in NYC - 4G seems to be working OK, downloads around 10 Mbps. Of course, we will never know the actual reason for the outage since that seems to be the corporate way. Making details public is considered setting a dangerous precedent and a way to encourage further questions. Especially when the cause was a network engineer clicking the wrong option - or an upgrade gone wrong. Anyway, I'm glad that Verizon does not drill in the Gulf of Mexico - BP is more than enough.

YAY! - Detroit 4G running at goodspeed again. Had very sporadic connections all morning. Let's hope the system is now stable. Thanks for posts supporting my question.

Ha, that's funny. I would of done the same thing about wondering how they knew where I was. I guess its like a virus, all or none. I am sure this is a embarrassing situation for the seemingly bulletproof network, but even Amazon had a bad week. It happens. Its not like we are in the space shuttle or anything. We can accept issues, just tell us. I got to think they have enough MIT grads there to stick up a page that says, "Your taking today off". But your right, by 3P the message was on the 611 support number.
Well, anywho.. looks like we are back in business for now, but the 4g is much slower than it was. Latency is really bad versus before but I am sure they will shake out the rest of it over the coming days.
