Trust me, I'm a tech guy. I have tried everything under the sun and experimented with all sorts of scenarios. At the end of the day, all devices on my account are being throttled.
Here is an output I did from the Speedtest.net app on my iPhone, which does not have unlimited data on it. As you can see, the upload speeds were great from tests I did last year and early this year. The tests recently are on par in regards to download speed, but as you can see, the upload speeds are horrid.
That does look weird, especially how it shows bad upload speed on the 29th of July, then it goes up somewhat on the 31st. I'd be interested to know the date your billing cycle begins to know when your service resets and wouldn't be subject to any throttling. I see on the 3rd and 7th that your upload speed was "somewhat ok" but then slowed significantly on the 9th. That's a very short period to notice any throttling unless you have done an amazing amount of data uploading, etc. The fact that it is happening on several devices does indeed show that it's not a device problem. I just have never seen upload speeds throttled and not download speeds too. I'm also a tech guy and this one is quite a curious issue.
I'm about 30 miles east of Columbis, OH and over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a significant drop in upload speed. My download speed seems normal, but uploading has dropped about 98% from 1mbps to 20kpbs. I am a photographer and I upload my work via my Verizon Wireless connection and now it is terribly slow all of a sudden. I can't understand why this would happen, most customers are downloading not uploading and Verizon is getting paid both ways unless the people have unlimited service. Very strange.
Please submit a ticket with Verizon through Twitter (@vzwsuport) or by calling them. Everyone needs to post there results from Speedtest.net so they can see that everyone with XLTE or LTE is seeing horrible upload speeds. Maybe we will actually get there attention this way. I submited a ticket and my response from the tech was that coverage is better outdoors than indoors. Yes, this is really what they told me. Come on Verizon. I've attached my most recent Speedtest results as of 8/16.
IF your usage has past the 5 GB mark for the month, you priority may have dropped, but that should effect, up and download speed.
WHat about latency? If that is high, then the problem may be the phone.
(I transfer photos while on wifi, much faster)
I'll be sure to report it, but what upload speeds are you actually seeing? Nearly 1mbs up sounds good to me, and that's what your speed test shows. I'm getting about 20-30kbps, 98% lower than that. My speed tests look good, reality is another story. Yet I did notice multiple simultaneous uploads are about the same 20-30kbps rate.
I live in a rural area where there is no wire broadband. I could lease a
T1 line for around $400+ a month, but that speed would be less than 4G.
Satellite services have even tighter caps, less bandwidth and cost more
than 4G. So land based wireless service is the only viable option here,
they will never run wires until there is a major housing development.
We're not that far away from other areas with wired services, but the
reality is wireless broadband will continue to be cheaper and faster with
the rapid proliferation of mobile devices. Costs will drop while service
improves. In the next 5 years 5G service will come online and likely offer
faster service at a lower cost than is currently available. Technology is
rapidly pushing wired services into the realm of obsolescence. It won't
happen overnight, but at the current rate the world will look very
different in 10-20 years.
