Verizon iPhone isn't 4G!?

Kinda shocked that the iPhone isn't 4G, of course, Verizon never gave anyone details ahead of time;

Umm... I'm pretty sure even a little bit of research (like 1 google search) would have told you that the VZW Iphone isn't 4g. The AT&T one isn't either (their current network isn't even 4g HSPA is 3.5G max)

Plus this same little bit of research would have shown that the next version of the iPhone will probably also not be a 4G phone.

the radio chip in the verizon iphone is hspa capable though, just not activated

If you remember last summer when the iPhone 4 was going to be released on AT&T, Apple did initially call it the iPhone 4G. Meaning it was the 4th generation of the iPhone.   They later backed off and just called it the iPhone 4 because of all the confusion that was causing.

PJNC, some of us are not, technically, technically smart.  I, too, thought that since Verizon was rolling out a 4G and an iphone4 at about the same time they were designed to work together. 

 

While my PC is relatively new I'm still using a 10 year old phone.  I have looked very forward to getting an iphone for some time.  (My sister and brother-in-law recently got one -- and they claim I will love it.)

 

But, technically, I'm not too smart.  Thus my question:

 

With software upgrades or whatever, will a Verizon iphone4 ever work on a 4G network.  (I asked this question at my Verizon store and no one knew the answer.)  If the answer is no, could one expect Verizon/Apple to introduce an iphone5, 6, 7, etc., which will?
