Will an external antenna work for my 4510L card?

Spoiler

We just received 4G service in our area and I am on the fringe according to Verizon's map.  My neighbor 3 doors down (600 yards) has 4G service, but I am only seeing a pink light (3G service).  We live in a wooded subdivision, but I am hoping that an external antenna will work.

I tried searching on line and found anything from a 3dB passive antenna to 18dB powered antenna.  Can I overpower my MiFi device?  What do you recommend that I purchase to get that extra distance, and why?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks John!  That is exactly the support/link that I was looking for.

I was hoping to avoid the whole "site survey thing", as I was trying to be lazy and find a solution, but I am really glad that you pointed me in the right direction.  I have an e-mail into 3GStore now with my specific dB info so they can direct me to the right solution.

My initial searching on the internet would have led me down the wrong (cheap) path and I would have  been disappointed in the results.

Thanks again!

There are many possibilities for antennas that may improve your signal.

The real question is how much money do you want to invest into your signal strength?  The difference between a unpowered antenna which connects directly to your MiFi and an powered antenna are substantial.  Powered antennas normally need an amplifier or booster to provide it with the needed power source.  Just make sure that whatever you purchase is configured to work on the 4G LTE network.
