Verizon 5G Home Internet IP Passthrough / Bridge Mode

Hello,

Recently my GF and I ordered Verizon 5G Home Internet  and received the Askey NCQ1338. I would like to know if anyone here knows how to configure a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 running FreshTomato 2022.7 (Dec 19, 2022 firmware) for routing use, both Ethernet and WIFI? I used a setup guide from Youtube (Nater Tater) who mentioned that IP Passthrough on the Verizon units is broken.  So I configured it per the video guide

Has anyone done this exact combination, or at least close to it? Has IP Passthrough be fixed yet? Below is the WAN settings page from my FreshTomato router. Is this all I have to do? The NCQ1338 IP is 192.168.0.1 (its default).

According to Reddit, the new firmware has been spotted making rounds to the Askey Gateways. Try checking for updates manually and see if it appears.

As for IP Passthrough, a friend of mine has been running the 5G Home Service for a few weeks now with a Ubiquiti Dream Machine. IP Passthrough works. My personal opinion is 1:1 NAT or IP Passthrough will always be buggy, and that's just where I sent my expectations. Just remember to enable it, then switch your router over to WAN2 on the Askey router to get the Public IP, otherwise you'll have trouble routing out. For IPv6, set Tomato to NDP Proxy Mode or IPv6 Passthrough / IPv6 Switched mode, since Prefix Delegation won't work on 5G Home. The Verizon router will hold and route the IPv6 prefix.

Another note - The 5G Home Service seems to change IP addresses fairly regularly. It seems to happen whenever the cellular connection drops and re-establishes. It reminds me of the DSL days where your IP address was associated with the PPPoE session, and if that ever dropped, you got a new IP.

I need to consult some experts on IP passthrough, and will get back to you.

On the Fios side, we have bridging WAN interface, which is virtually the same thing, but the IP passthrough does something extra there.

The Primary DNS is not relevant any more when you disable the DHCP server on the 5G router. DNS addresses would be served via DHCP option 6 if the DHCP server were not disabled.

Thank you for the help.

Do you know when the new Firmware will be released for the ASK-NCQ1338FA by chance? Link below

I could not get my gateway (ARC-XCI55AX) to satisfactorily work in IP passthrough. No bridge mode option available.

I got it to work with my Asus router for normal activity. However, I have a Synology NAS that continued to be blocked. Not sure if it was a passthrough problem or a firewall problem since there was no way to modify the firewall rules.

I am running firmware 222656 in IP Passthrough mode and Google WIFI mesh system.  No problems so far...but have only been activated a few days now.
