Almost Zero Internet

We have 5G Home Plus. Gateway install indicated it was in a suitable location, and VZW's wifi test said "excellent" throught entire house (2,800sq ft).
Signal strength was poor, outside of the room with the gayeway, so we added a tp link router in bridge mode and an extender. Wifi signal stength is great now, but our speeds are still awful. I'm getting 1-2 down and 7-9 up. Youtube TV is unwatchable (e.g., live football games you cannot see the ball ) and anything requing internet is brutally slow. YT reports speeds of 500-800 kbps. At one point I disabled IPV6 on the router and TV, and performance jjumped for the TV to 3,400kbps. It has since dropped back down, but IPV6 is still disabled.
CS recommended putting the gateway on a windowsill, but that did not help--it was already 4 feet away from the window. Then, they recommended a windowsill on the east side of the house, and still no improvement. The guy mentioned that there is only one tower in my area(?), despite the large population.
Is there something else I can do, or is Verizon just selling me internet advertised at speeds it cannot possibly deliver?
