Bill sent to collections

I had home internet with Verizon for about one month before canceling. I was misled into believing I would receive 5G service. However, when I called about my slow internet speeds, I was informed that my area only qualified for 4G, directly contradicting what I was told when signing up.
I returned the equipment as instructed and had a zero balance on my bill. The agent I spoke with during cancellation confirmed that I wouldnโt owe anything as long as I returned the equipment. I even took photos of the equipment packed with the provided slips at UPS to verify the return.
A few months later, I received a bill for around $200. Since then, Iโve spent months communicating with agents to understand why they claim I owe this amount. Every time I call, they assure me someone will follow up so I can provide more information, but no one ever does. Now, the bill has been sent to collections, and the collections agency has even less information than Verizonโs customer service. I can prove I donโt owe this money, but no one seems willing to accept the evidence.
Iโm completely at a loss and have never had a worse experience with customer service. I canโt even log into my account because it no longer exists after the cancellation. I will take whatever steps are necessary to contest this unfair charge.

I called the collections agency and they said they are no longer handling the collections and that it has been returned to Verizon. I cannot get clear information from Verizon on the status of my account as they say it is still in collections and they cannot resolve. This affecting my credit score. Can you please help me resolve privately via messsages?

I am noting here that I was messaged privately to call the same number that will not allow me to communicate directly with a representative. I cannot reach anyone to help me resolve this issue. This problem is still unresolved.
