CANNOT RETURN EQUIPMENT

I'm having the SAME ISSUE so many others are having. I cancelled my internet service a few WEEKS ago and need to return the equipment.  Their chat rep told me to take to a UPS store, and they couldn’t help me with out a return order number so I called Verizon to get one and was told they couldn't provide one and would have to MAIL me a return shipping label. I was promised I would have it within 2 days and it never came. I called a few days later and was AGAIN told the only way to return it was to a UPS Store, but they couldn't provide me a return order number. They finally PROMISED another label would be sent within 3-5 days, it never showed. I've been on chat support now for over 3 hours and now I'm being told I need to go to my nearest Verizon store which is over 30 minutes away. That's an HOUR round-trip plus however much time I would spend at the store. And I'm seeing in this forum that taking it to the Verizon store doesn't work anyway.  I've already been charged $40 for some strange reason - it was supposed to be a FREE 30-day trial and I canceled well within the 30 days. And it looks like others are being charged $200+ for non-return when they are actually returning the equipment?! YOU CANNOT LOCK ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT, PREVENT ME FROM RETURNING YOUR EQUIPMENT, AND THEN CHARGE ME FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE.
