Hello!
I was wondering how common it is to have periodic jitter on a consistent basis? Speeds are good (300Mbps/20/Mbps) and I have no real complaint when surfing the internet/streaming/etc. However, when it comes to online gaming this jitter can be very problematic. Yes, I understand fixed wireless certainly has its ups and downs but when you're rural, you'll take anything over expensive 5Mbps DSL right? 🙂
Pings hover on average 25ms-40ms but at least once every 5-10 seconds I'll see a 150-300ms . Sometimes 2-3 times in a row. No packet loss. But games that require a stable connection (Path of Exile 2 for example) are downright horrendous to play. Signal is excellent (the tower is ~1000 ft away)
Is this something I'll just have to live with until the decade fixed internet decides to come down my windy backroad in the middle of nowhere?

Yes, you hit the nail on the head. It's an issue upstream (tower, network, etc.).
I would recommend calling into Verizon Support and requesting escalation to a Level 2 Network Tech. Those are the support folks I've had the best luck with when dealing with issues like this. They have the tools and knowledge to troubleshoot this issue the most effectively. As you've done all of the isolation testing anyone could ask for, it should give them a great head start.

I wasn't able to replicate the random latency spikes to that IP address. I have the same model of router and I'm also just under 1000ft., from the tower I connect to. However, you're obviously experiencing latency spikes, and my setup is not your setup.
So, I have a few questions:
- What device were using to test the latency (i.e., ping times)? For example, were you using a PC on Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
- Do you experience the same latency spikes when connecting to other destinations via IPv6 and IPv4? I ask to determine if it's a route-specific issue to the IPv6 target from your ping tests, or if it's a bigger issue.
- Are you using the WNC-CR200A as your primary home router, or is it configured in IP Passthrough mode with another router?
- Wi-Fi Only: Are you using any Wi-Fi Extenders?

1. PC directly connected to the CR200A via ethernet
2. Yes, it doesn't matter what address I ping, the spikes remain. Using the CR200A to ping (100 ping test) also yields same results.
3. It is the primary router, I've had issues trying to get IP Passthru to work so just stopped trying, heh
4. While testing Wi-Fi, the same spikes occur, no difference between that and wired directly. I had hoped being directly connected would fix it but that is a negative.
Interestingly, my roommate has their own gateway on the other side of the house, they also see the same exact spikes. And yes, I've tested mine with their gateway off to remove any possible signal conflicts.
Is it safe to assume that the issue might be tower/Verizon related in this area?
