High latency

I have Verizon 5g home internet. My upload and download are great …300 download ….21 upload BUT my latency at best case is 72ms and 98ms worst case . I can’t play any First person Shooter games . And I can’t watch a live 4k stream on YouTube . I don’t understand why I have such high latency. But I’m really about to switch to a different provider. I have called several times , all they want to do is have me constantly reset my device. Or they want me pay for a hot spot booster or antenna thing and that will help with my uploading and downloading BUT this doesn’t help with latency. Idk what to do 😞

Your latency is a bit high but not out of the normal range for 5G/5G UWB. Given it's a wireless service you will not see fiber or cable latency numbers. I average similar latency as you do but I don't experience issues streaming 4K from Disney+, YouTube, or any other location. I admittedly haven't tried to play and FPS games recently though.

The following paragraph spells out the fine print of what Verizon expects you to experience (source: https://www.verizon.com/support/broadband-services/😞

"With respect to latency for use of real-time data applications, Verizon Wireless expects network to device (round-trip) latency to be 37-57 ms on its 5G Ultra Wideband network (mobile and 5G Home Internet) and All Access Home Internet, 42-64 ms on its 5G network, and 49-75 ms on its 4G LTE network (mobile and LTE Home Internet). Latency ranges are based on the approximate 25th and 75th percentiles of multi-server network tests for the last 6 months period ending August 31, 2024."

So, you are having issues with your Verizon 5G internet? Well, we all do! Read below!

Verizon 5G internet is very dependent on your signal strength. Do you know what router you have? Have you posted what router you have?
Well, that's very important for figuring out what your issue is. Would you post what device you have? It's on the sticker underneath your router.

Next, 5G signal strength is the next most important! And I do not mean the bars, I mean the DB signal strength your router is reporting.
Please post what those numbers are!
http://mynetworksettings.com/ usually will allow you to login to the router, unless you set up some IP passthrough or other configuration.
If you did, you need to be able to figure out how to login yourself. If you are unsure how to connect HTTP to your gateway, research.)

Once you login to your router, go to your status page, and there should be a 5G signal strength. Please post your signal strength, copy and paste.

The smaller the number, the stronger the strength. (-90 is better than -110db) - Does that make sense? I have experienced -110 or lower will cause issues. I recently set my router face down with the top facing where my 5G tower is and it improved my signal by over 10db. Remember, signal strength is logarithmic.
My experience is going to be different than you from another tower, I do not live where you do.

I have the wnc-cr200a modem/router. It’s a tall white box with a WiFi signal and 3 signal bars that light up white led . My 4LTE=  -97.   And my 5g is -98. If I stick it out side my window the router that is I can get 4LTE -87 and 5g -89 and that will drop my latency to about 64. I don’t know how to post pics on here either sorry
