Modem fan starts, wifi drops within seconds, takes 2-3 minutes to come back on

I work from home 2days/week, and this happens about once a week.   The modem is on my desk, there is nothing around it, it is not in direct sun, and the temperature in my house is in the upper 60s.

When I hear the fan go on in the modem, I have about 5 seconds before the wifi disappears.   The fan stops.   The SSID disappears.    I can unplug it, wait 30 seconds and it will come back.

This time, I was just working on a Word doc, so I left it alone.   The SSID started broadcasting again, and it automatically reconnected within 2-3 minutes.

I felt the modem, and it was not concerningly warm or anything.   Is this overheating and needs a replacement?  It's about a year old, I think, maybe 10 months.
