Hello All
I currently have 5G home internet. If I upgrade to the Plus service does Verizon merely flip a switch or do I start over w/a new account and have to reinstate my current discounts, etc. from scratch?
My concern is due to an equipment failure (white cube) which Verizon replaced with the newer grey rectangular unit (WNC-CR200A) only to find that I had lost my grandfathered plan and have since been paying the same price for slower speeds. Hence, I want to avoid pressing the ejection button and once again opening a can of worms.
Thanks,
Bill

Short Answer: Yes, they literally just change some settings in their systems. They push those changes to your router, you reboot, and voila, you have faster speeds again.
Long Answer: I had the same situation occur to me last fall. Sudden drop in reliability in speeds on the same white cube. They said it was a hardware problem and replaced it with a WNC-CR200A (it's an upgrade, so no complaints). However, once it came back online my speeds were at the 100Mbit/s tier. My "grandfathered plan" had only been in use for a year and a few months, and I never received any notification of service plans changing.
So, to get the same speeds before, I had to upgrade to Home Plus (like they're asking you to do). The entire thing felt like a very unprofessional mess, but I assume it was just incompetence. At the time this happened, I could still find lots of web pages on the Verizon website that provided "Broadband Facts" that reflected what you and I had as "grandfathered plans".
However, I like Verizon 5G Home Internet enough that I went ahead with the upgrade. It should be automatic without anything more than a reboot of the WNC-CR200A once Verizon has provisioned the new service. I had to call into support a couple of times to get someone with the knowledge and experience to fix the automatic failure to upgrade. However, once he fixed it, things have been going great ever since.
I share this long story to say that if you like Verizon 5G Home Internet, and you can get over feeling taken advantage of, then upgrade to Home Plus and enjoy the same service you had for more money. In all seriousness, I am enjoying it and some of the other money saving aspects of Verizon 5G Home Internet (e.g., Perks) still make it the best ISP I've had in many, many years.
Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed response - that’s the specific information I was seeking. Also, it’s good to know that there were others who experienced the same issues that resulted in the loss of their original plans.
Thanks again for the info.
