Activating 5g Moto Mod

I'm having one heck of a time trying to activate a 5g moto mod.  I already have a 5g unlimited plan, and when I click the thing on a moto z4 the auto activation fails every time.  Verizon tech support is totally useless, heck I never spoke to a single person that knew what a moto mod was or that it had a sim card.  I did get a help ticket put in once I had spoken with 6 different tech support reps.

When attaching the mod it does bring up a up sale page in web browser, but there's no way to do anything from there, and it dead ends you after entering account info.

I'm about to give up and just return the mod and forget about it.

Because it's a gimmick. If you have UW 5G in your area, get a phone with a real 5G modem. If you don't have UW in your area, sell/return the moto mod. From what many people brought up, Verizon's nationwide 5G is slower than 4G.

I agree it does seem to be a gimmick, however it still shouldn't be impossible to activate.  I do have 5g uwb in my city, even though it only works outside, standing directly under a 5g tower.  I hear you when it comes to just buying a 5g phone, but I'm not dropping that kinda money on something that won't benefit me in the end.  This moto mod is a personal test of the local 5g build out, for my own curiosity and needless to say it's not going good so far.

Update

So I got someone from Verizon who was knowledgeable. They had the mod setup as a connected device, issue the device a dead number, had to give them imei and iccid.  Once that was done the device still didn't want to auto activate, so I did a factory reset on the moto mod, and after a few minutes it finally auto activated.

FYI to anyone who cares, the moto mod on 4g lte seems to get a better overall signal than the moto z4 itself.  The reception in db is better and it reflects on speed tests.

My experience is like yours. I have the latest model of Moto Z4 phone. I recently decided to purchase a 5G Mod for it despite the negative reviews around the web. Initially, the bad reviews seemed to be substantiated. After I connected the 5G mod to my Z4, it tried to 'activate' but failed, with a message that activation was not successful and I should call Verizon for assistance. I called Verizon and the agent I spoke with seemed to be aware of the problem and said she was going to walk me through what is required to activate the 5G Mod. First, she said that the 5G Mod has its own SIM card and asked that I provide the IMEI and ICCID for it. And I did. She then said that she needed my permission to activate the 5G Mod SIM, which I provided by responding to a text message that she sent me. Then she said she was going to activate the Mod. At this point, I lost phone connection with her! I thought that she would call back, as is usually the case when a connection is dropped, but she did not call back. After a while I turned off my Z4 and back on, and lo and behold, the activation of 5G Mod was successful.  However, there was problem! Activating the SIM of the 5G Mod automatically deactivated the SIM of my Z4 phone, leading to a situation that some have reported: my Z4 phone would work only with the 5G Mod connected because its SIM, rather than my Z4 phone's, was the one that was active!  I called Verizon back and explained the problem as clearly as I could, and to her credit, the new agent I spoke with understood the issue. After a while, a solution to the problem emerged, which was to activate BOTH the SIM of the 5G Mod and the SIM for my Z4 phone. The way to do that was to add in my  wireless account a new line for the 5G Mod with its own dummy number. The SIM card associated with my Z4 phone would be activated  first and then, separately, the SIM card  associated with the new dummy line assigned to the 5G Mod would be activated. Doing that got things to work!!! Importantly, even though a new line was added in my account, there is no charge for it. It is simply what must be done for the 5G Mod to work. Now I can disconnect the 5G Mod and my Z4 phone still works, allowing me to use my other Moto Mods, of which I have several that I have come to rely on. Bottom line: the 5G Mod works with a Z4 phone, but it must be activated by Verizon through a separate dummy line in your wireless account. Of course, for the 5G network to kick in, you still need to be in a covered area and it must be ultra-wide band, which I'd already signed up for. Most of the time, the phone connects to the 4G LTE network, which is fine. Good luck!

So Verizon initially told me I had to be in a 5g UWB area to activate the mod so stupid me actually went to the closest one to try... no one at Verizon seems to understand the mod is essentially strapping a tablet to the back of your phone with its own IMEI/phone number, etc.    That line has to be activated before you slap the mod on and it magically works...

Has anyone had the issue that when you attach the 5g mod to you Z4 does it give you a screen that say your device is not compatible with the 5g mod.  Mine has been doing the and there is no one at Verizon that know what the heck there doing.  I find on Google the it's possible the the 5g mod won't work on an unlocked phone but tech support says it should not matter if it's locked or unlocked.   Any suggestions on how to fix it..  I can't even get it to connect to the phone to even get the ICCID or the IMEI off of it.. I'm going to try to see if I can get those by hooking it up to the desktop.
