Connection is poor or non existent

I have had Verizon for at lest 23 years that we have lived in the rural area of San Diego.  Been good until the last month or 6 weeks, we have very spotty connection and at times cannot even receive phone calls or connect to the internet. We depend on the phones because we do not have wifi or other internet connection. The service had been good and with 5G it is supposed to be getting better but for us it has gotten worse. There are times we have no 5g, 4g or any other g they want to try.
