How much does it cost to activate a gear s2 watch?

I recently received a free gear s2 watch from verizon but did not realize I would need to activate it can anyone tell me a general cost estimate for this activation. I am not the account owner and my mom is out of the country and insisted since I am 23 I need to look into this myself but verizon can not tell me anything.

You can activate it if you want to, but it is not required. The plan is $5 a month, but I am unsure how much the activation fee will be.

I've been told since I'm in 2 year contract with my phone it's  $40

You don't have to sign a 2 year contract as you already own the watch.

The line access fee for the phone might be $40 if you are under a two year contract. That doesn't mean that the line for the watch will also be $40 too.

It cost 5 for the extra line but I was charged a one time $40 activation fee without a contract.
