Messenger+ not showing keyboard on Huawei smartwatch

I received a Huawei watch for my birthday (running Android wear 2.7.0.178645119) and I have it paired to my LGv20 (running Android 7.0)

For some reason I can not get the keyboard to show up in the Messenger+ app.  I know it works, because I can get it in all other apps on the phone.  I think the issue lies in the Messenger+ app itself, either on the phone, or on the watch.  I've not been able to find any settings for wearables, other than the pre written text messages.

Is there a way to get a keyboard to at least show up in the Messenger+ app on my watch????  HELP!!!
