Unable to activate Verizon account

   I'm a new Verizon customer, trying to activate my account. The port-in process has reached the point where it is asking for my gmail address, but none of the options match my gmail address format. 
   I had been a Verizon customer several years ago. Perhaps that is the reason for my present problem. CHOOSE GMAIL ADDRESS

   My gmail address is [email address removed per the Verizon Terms of Service]. I tried the "Choose your own" but the dialog did not respond to that. I'm disappointed with the entire port in process. I spent an entire day yesterday trying to complete the process. This forum is the first place that I've been that appears helpful.
