phone security options

Does Verizon offer any free phone security options as part of service with an account? There is a mention on the website of "basic" options but nowhere can I find or pin someone down that this service is free for more than a month. V

All I need is a simple answer. Verizon, do you or don't you?

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. However, that is not what I am looking for or asking about. I used to have Digital Secure, it was free on the basic mode. Now I am being told to switch to Verizon Protect, which says it has a basic mode, but the answer to my question is not answered on your website - it seems to be free for only the first month, even on basic. What is the full answer to this question - is there a free version, on a basic level, of Verizon Protect. Thanks!

I've got SIM Protection and Number Lock options in my account where turning those on prevents SIM swapping sc*ms and fraudulent porting out of your number.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I will look into these on my account and see if they are available!

You're welcome.  I'm a prepaid customer; seems like postpaid customers who are paying more would get the options to turn on SIM Protection and Number Lock too.

From what I can tell, Digital Secure is free only for 1 month, then you start getting billed.  Verizon Protect is simply the "new" version of Digital Secure?

Hi! I looked it up, and I do have the options you mentioned.

It seems that Digital Secure is no longer being offered for free as it was when I first started using it. Considering how much I pay each month, that is a huge disappointment!

What really irks me is that I am unable to get a clear answer from Verizon. I was contacted privately by customer support, and they wanted to access my account to look into this. But, they still seem unwilling to say, "yep, we are charging for this service now."  I am nervous about Verizon customer service accessing my account, after reading that there is reason to be concerned about overseas players gaining access to phone accounts.

The first I read of Digital Secure Basic being billed for was about a year ago.  Speculation, but I'm wondering if there was a change where Verizon began charging for it.  Anything I've seen on the website now says it's free for the first month, but afterwards you will be billed monthly.

If CS contacted you via a PM in the forums and it had a link to authorize account access, I've been told by one of the forum admins that all those agents are US-based.  But my experience with accepting the link and letting them access my account took me to a social networking sort of thing where I got passed around from one person to another every 20 minutes or so in a chat-type window and it seemed nobody could really answer my question.  I am wondering if it is a 3rd party company they're using.  If you call, then it goes to an overseas call center.

Thanks for sharing your experience with using the CS to access your account. That sounds very bad.  I just am very wary anymore especially with my phone.
