How much will it cost to take a phone and phone number off your contract?

This depends on whether you have a contract, no contract, Edge, etc... 

If on contract, you have an early termination fee based on when you signed the contract. (when did you sign up?)

Off contract...no charge.

On Edge, you have to have the phone paid off in full.

If paid off...no charge.
