I have a basic phone (a Jest 2) and this month Verizon says I used 0.24 mb of data. I have all kinds of functions on the phone to prevent me from using data.
If I used data its not my fault. It was unintentional. If I could remove the browser from my phone I certainly would. It seems that a random keypress can start the thing.
All phones with data capability will use some data. Even smartphone use less than 1MB a month when Data is turned off.
Yes, a random keypress can start using data. You can call Verizon to block data from your basic phone, at least you used to be able to. Of course, this would mean you would not be able to download things such as email/ringtones/ringbacktones/etc... if you decided you wanted to do so.
