My droid is no longer sending email from primary account. It has been since February and stopped this week Also I have sometimes 15 APPs or more that spontaneously start running.

For your email account, try removing it from your phone, and login from a PC (if possible) and delete your messages ( the ones that you don't need) then re add it to your phone and see if the problem persists. I have experiences this type of issue before and this seemed to work. I hope that it works for you. And for your Apps try going to your settings > manage applications > and clear the cache from the ones that are running non stop or you can always uninstall and reinstall them because sometimes certain apps do become defective over a period of time. I hope that this works for you!
