Allowing Applications to Have Access

I just received my 'Incredible' and am wondering what the deal is whith applications needing access to my personal information.

They want aces to things such as:

• Network communication
Full Internet access

• System tools
Modify global system settings

• Phone calls
Read phone state and identity

• Storage
Modify/delete SD card contents

It's the same story for that local weather tab on the home screen.

I seriously have to keep looking at that 'tap here' alert that is under my clock?
The one that says, "To see local weather, tap here to turn on location service.

Then when I tap, I am asked to give location consent;
• Allow Google's location service to collect anonymous location data. Collection will occur even when no applications are running.

Huh?
So in order to turn that message off, I have to have every step that I take, monitored?

I'm not understanding the necessity of giving up all of that access.

Can somebody please shed some light; Or am I just getting all melodramatic for no reason? 😃

This depends on which app you are using.... Each app has it own required access..

They want aces to things such as:

• Network communication
Full Internet access
This is required for any access that requires access to web to update information.  Without this clearance the app cant update until you acknowlegde clearance every time.

• System tools
Modify global system settings
This is a standard access required for software to install or be able to run, without this access the app is unusable.

• Phone calls
Read phone state and identity
If the app need to access contact information for phone dialing or contact lookup, like if app has option to share info from app it will need this access to send the email or text and retrieve contact info from phone book.

• Storage
Modify/delete SD card contents
Mostly all apps have to save a cache file or data for app to function and it needs this clearance to save this data to the drive or sd card.

It's the same story for that local weather tab on the home screen.
