so a search for "backup assistant and droid". someone said that you could convert the backup assistant to a spreadsheet, combine some of the cells in the spreadsheet, email it to your gmail account, and it should accept them.
but why not go to a verizon store (maybe the one where you got the droid) or best buy or where ever and ask if they could transfer the data. they have machines for that.
i got mine at best buy and they do it for no charge. others have said they went to a verizon store and they did the same for no charge.

The easiest way i found is to download a powerful program called BitPim (its 100% free), download your contacts off your phone and then upload them to your gmail account, your gmail contacts will automatically sync with your phone. easy.

Does the Dare have google sync avaialble for it?
If so, install Google sync, sync your contacts with your google account. They will all show up automatically on your Androd. This is how I did it from my Blackberry.

Go to backup assistant on my verizon and log into your account. when you get to the contact page there is an area explaining how to transfer contacts to your droid. i can't remember specific details because its been a month atleast since i've transfered my contacts. i do remember you use the .csv to transfer.
