I am currently looking at purchasing a Motorola Droid. But, before I do, I need to figure out if I need one or if it has to much I will not want/need/use.
I currently have an enV2. I use it for texting, taking pictures, and talking on the phone (in that order).
I had owned a Blackberry Tour for 4 days but ended up returning it. I loved the phone. I loved being able to get on the internet and checking my e-mail. I loved the ease of using facebook. I loved the pictures it took. I loved having access to music. I hated the txt messaging. I hated having a 160 character limit on all my mesages. There was no way to transer over all my contacts and it needed to be done manually. I hated that. I hated how my phonebook operated to pull up a person to call them or txt them.
I had been looking at the Samsung Rogue before it came out, and when I went into the store to look at it personally, I learned about the Droid and decided to wait.
My phone is barely working (the buttons on the front don't work) and I need to get a new one, but don't want to make a mistake. I want a phone that I can access the internet with, get my e-mail with (aol, and gmail accts), access facebook with, listen to music and still have ease at sending/recieving txt messages and taking and sending picture messages. Is the Droid what I want?

Hi there!
Well it's really exciting to see your interest in the Droid. I'll start off by saying that all three things you do on your phone work perfectly with the Droid, and if something doesn't suit your taste, there's probably an app for that (TM).
If the 160 character texting isn't for your, then you should probably use the app Handcent. It chops up a huge message into X amount of messages so you don't have to stop in the middle of a text to send another one. Extremely handy and easy to use.
Music? A lot of people complain about the native music application (Though I don't know why -- does it's job just fine) you could use something like MixZing or TuneWiki both which not only do the job of a music player but have substantially have more function.
Taking pictures? I personally reccomend FXCamera -- it's pretty amazing. Has filters, and takes huge (no literally, huge resolution) pictures.
The keyboard requires a learning curve but I type perfectly with it.

Yes, you need a Droid. I just question which one. The Motorola or the HTC droid. I have the HTC and absolutely satisfied with its performance thus far. I can't put it down. If you're new to smartphones then I'd start out baby stepping by getting the HTC. It's about a 100 bucks cheaper. Plus both versions will have the Android 2.0 or 2.1 OS first quarter of 2010.
Not trying to be rude but if you're texting more than 160 characters then why not send an email?

Because usually I am replying to a txt and so hitting reply is easier then going into something else to reply. I guess I have been in a comfortable rut

No problem! I hope you do end up getting the Droid Eris or Droid itself, and remember that the Android Market is constantly growing. There's always going to be an app that can fit your needs -- and if not one day there will be!
Glad I could help
