Droid freezing/locking up when attempting to access preinstalled "music" app

So I just bought a Droid on the 23rd of December and have been loving the experience thus far, with one annoying exception...

As it is currently, every time I try to access the default "Music" app on my Droid, it pulls up a black window as if it was trying to access the app, however, my Droid completely freezes up and will not to respond to any input whatsoever. The program eventually times out and Android asks me whether or not I want to force close the program, or if it I want to continue to "wait" for it.

The problem itself started on the morning of the 24th. I had been using the Droid to play music throughout the night to help me sleep since I cannot stand stark silence. It was a strange occurrence, considering the phone was playing the music just fine, yet when I restart the phone in the morning (I think I restarted cause it was being slow) and try to access the music again, the whole thing locks up.

Any Ideas?

A thought occurs as I type this question out... Do you think that maybe the Droid is freezing while its attempting to load an MP3 or perhaps an MP3 Tag from the current MP3 it last had in its playlist prior to being closed down? I haven't attempted a battery pull nor have I tried to remove or operate the Droid without its SD Card.

In any case, I'll be going to the local Verizon store to see if they can figure this out or not, but I figured I'd also hit up the Verizon community boards to see if you people can help me out as well.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Is there any possibility you have a corrupted MP3 file on the phone, and it's trying to access this as the "next" song?

Have you tried removing ALL your song files from the Droid, reboot, then add back just 1 song that you know played OK last night?

See if the app still locks up with just a single song.  If it works OK, add back your other songs and see if you can pin-point which song has the problem.

Got my Droid on 12/30 and the 'music' app worked. At least it brought up a list of songs you could buy and would let you play about 30 seconds on any one of them. But the last couple of days when I click on Song or any of the other three choices, the screen goes black and nothing happens. Droid does not freeze up but won't go any further . . .

Can't figure why it quit working . . . not an essential app, but one I was looking forward to using as I had time.

Any help out there ??

Hey Ralph,

I just checked my "music" app, and had the same experience. :smileysad:

Hopefully, someone will have a fix for this!

There is also a problem with the Music player skipping/stuttering.

I bought my Eris phone when it first came out  in November and I do like the phone but I have the same problems.  My phone will lock up after about 1/2 hour of music playing.  Since I drive over 1 1/2 hours everyday to work this got annoying.  I thought that the phone was getting hot because I have it on one of my vents and freaking out the phone.  It would still be playing music and calls can come into the phone but since it is locked hard and I can't do anything but remove the battery.  After a reboot the phone would be fine again.

Maybe the next update will fix these issues.

It will most likely be an OS update to android 2.0 that fixes the issues.
