I noticed this today too Az.... Then I could barely hear the voice because I had the volume turned down. The maps work great.

Hi I understand your concern regarding hearing the navigation when using Google Maps. I am happy to tell you that I actually use that feature all the time and it does give voice directions. Just make sure the volume is turned up when you are in the application. When you start moving, it will start talking. I probably would not use it myself if it did not talk
Please let me know if it worked for you.
Thanks!

My voice commands are not working on Google Maps. The map and the written directions are there, but nothing verbal. Help!

You might also want to check the Market for an update of Google Maps. It won't show in your downloads, but if you search for Google Maps, you can download the latest version to the phone. The preinstalled version of Maps may or may not have the Navigation included.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thanks, but my problem was that the verbal commands were working and then it was not.

Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Apps Then pick "All" tab and find Maps, once you open that screen press "Clear Data" This will clear out your cache for that app.
Now if you are on the Screen that shows the location and list of direction make sure you click on the "Navigate" button. You can also hit the Menu button while in Navigation mode and make sure your Navigation Volume is not on "Mute".
