Re: Is there an APP for taking a "screenshot" on the DROID X??

After googling for months, I inadvertantly (sp) found ...    MyPhoneExplorer ....

When tethered, it has a screen capture option under the 'extras' drop down menu within the desktop program.  You can download it on the market and the desktop version for your PC and ....IT IS FREE!  and you do NOT HAVE TO BE ROOTED TO USE IT.

you can get it here http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php

AWESOME App and works great on my droid X.  You have to be tethered (USB phone charge and debugged) or thru WIFI.

You can sync your contacts, calendar and see all the files on your phone and SD card as well.

Unbelievable that someone else hasn't already shared this on the forums.  I hated that dang sdk process.

oh, btw the screenshot can only be taken from a desktop not on the phone itself from what Ive seen.

Actually MyPhoneExplorer sounds almost like a refined version of the SDK interface... There is a few apps that allows users to do screen shots without root but they only allows you to do it when inside there app, now I havent been able to get a answer from developers of these apps and the method they used to acheive this, I was hoping to get the information and develope a app that would work around this restriction.  I have wrote a number of apps for WM but I am still learning Androids code and without them choosing to help it may take me a bit.... I am surprised that someone hasnt tried to investigate this more.

Here is example of Lock 2.0 screen capture option that work to take shots of app which proves that this is possible but the developersjust havent figured or took the time to put one together....

Oh well, for now the SDK is the only safe way of doing this for now but hopefully someone can work something out...

Be Careful. While our members are generally helpful and eager to provide useful information, Wireless customers need to be cautious on what you decide to download as there is always potential risk that your device may be damaged or void your warranty.

Further, any posted content that states any benefits of why rooting or hacking should be done is also not allowed.

Thank you.

I would urge you to reconsider your policy.  You are driving people to other forums which *do* discuss such things, which may contain bad information, and you may not know what is being discussed there and lose the chance to correct.

I would suggest that instead of deleting the text, add something like your text above:   "Rooting violates your Terms of Service with Verizon and will void your warranty.  It may damage your phone or even cause it to become completely unusable."   People ARE going to discuss this somewhere, and pretending otherwise doesn't help anyone.

I disagree, respectfully or otherwise....

As for 5 months, so what?

People CAN and Do discuss "Rooting" somewhere, lot's and lots of "somewhere's and there's enough of it going on without cluttering up this forum with that discussion. The biggest majority of the participants here are more interested in discussing phone features and/or issues and all the various phones offered by Verizon. And what's to stop the "bad information" from being discussed here? The Mods here have enough to do dealing with sarcastic jerks like me without having to police the world of phone modding.

It isn't needed here, period. Go discuss it at one of the dozens of Android Geekboy websites out there ( I visit a few of them from time to time). As usual, participate in those places at your own risk.

And drop the superior attitude already about Verizon "pretending otherwise".  A good business decision is not pretending, unless you are online in Mom's basement  and counting conspiracy theories.

Thank you for your comment, respectfully or otherwise.  To respond:

The 5 months comment:  if comments about rooting need to be shut down, leaving the information there for 5 months isn't so good.  Yes, they had other things to do but presumably the sky didn't fall.

The discussions aren't fully deleted, the posts are just left with some text deleted, so they do continue to clutter up the place.

I would prefer they removed the post than do this, which (presumably) leaves some people to wonder what has been cut, maybe do a google search and then find good/bad forums etc)

A lot of Android discussions begin with "What are all those useless apps on the phone and why can't I delete them?"  I think it would be useful to have the explanations that in fact they don't cause any harm, but if you REALLY want them to go, you can do this, but you will void your warranty etc.

"Pretending otherwise" was hardly a superior attitude, perhaps bad language.  I wasn't suggesting a conspiracy theory, merely pointing out that refusing to have it discussed here doesn't make it go away.  Whether theirs is a "good" business decision was what I was questioning.

Another opportunity for Red-Letter discussions.....:smileyvery-happy:
Here goes....

I guess we notice the "It's my phone and I should be able to delete any app and grow corn with it, if I wish. My civil rights have been violated!!!!" style of posts more often...

This is the part I was referring to about the Mods having their hands full with sarcastic jerks like me....:smileyvery-happy: . I, for one, am of the belief that is was the right decision. I'm certain that there will disagreement over this issue, and that's fine. It makes for lively conversation on an otherwise dreadfully cold morning (of which I must now face the truth that I HAVE to go to work now).

Take care, Geri O

Yes, this was the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) ruling that bypassing certain types of software protection on phones did not constitute breach of copyright.

Of course, nothing in that ruling forces Verizon Wireless to allow discussions of "it" on their site

I really think the old rule still stands, what they don't know wont hurt them... The more users speak of doing this to their device the more chance that users that has no knowledge of this will wonder what it is and that will open the decision to the unknowledgeable users and cause a large number of new issues.

Sometimes I think restricking this subject is wise in some situations...
