I know you to be a bright person and so your confusion has to relate to a Flaw in my post.
Quick and Dirty, Navigate on Froyo has been updated to provide Public Transportation Navigation.
Navigate on GB and HoneyComb lacks the Public Transportation Functionality
Maps on Froyo is version 5.8.0 and it is the same ofn GB and Hondycomb
That means the Version number change is for the Navigate module/Service/Pprocess
That leaves one simple Question
"How do I display the Version number for Navigate?"
Again, my apologies for confusing you

If you would like to check the version number you can open Settings / Applications / Maps and you should see the version number under the name of app...

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

You might want to check the Market for an update to the Map application. I just downloaded tonight version 5.9.0. I seem to remember something about transit direction for tablets in the change log plus other things.
Thanks for pointing that out, thats funny I didnt notice but after screen shot the app auto updated me to 5.9.0..

I noticed that this option doesn't show until you search for a location and then click directions... Are you in the direction window?
