Yahoo app on market

Has anyone with the Yahoo app from the market noticed the mandatory download that popped up yesterday? Without the update it does a force close. I have read that the update is outside the market, is this a problem? I got it to work and the new features that are incorporated in the new update are there but wanted to know if this was safe since it's outside the market?
