format editing in emails on gpad

is there a way to edit text format (underline, italicize, bold, etc.) in composing gmail messages while using a gpad?

i have a gpad 10.1.

while typing an email in gmail, i noticed that the editing capacities seem to be reduced in the same way as for a phone. i'm hoping there is a way to edit emails the same way as can be done on a laptop.
