how to delete multiple contacts

Just got the Galaxy cellphone.  It synced with my google account imported hundreds of obsolete contacts I forgot were on the web server.  How can I delete them all at once?  thanks in advance

I looked in manual for deleting multiple contacts there is not a option. Try searching for a application for deleting multiple contacts. 

 

 

Android Market:
Browse for new Android applications, games or downloads for
your phone. You’ll need to have a Google account set up on your
phone to download a new application.
1. From the Home screen, select Applications Market.
2. The first time you open Market, read the Terms of Service,
then touch Accept to continue.
3. Browse for items to install or upgrade downloads:
• Apps: New applications.
• Games: New games.
• Downloads: Display requested downloads, plus available updates
to applications installed on your phone.

It may be easier to delete the contacts from your Google account and then resync. Otherwise, if you delete them from the phone and then resync with Google, they will return
