after seeing a few of the applications for android phones, it leaves me to wonder:

where are all the good applications?

i like to play sudoku, baseball (with real players), football (same), and golf (same) but have not seen those offered for android phones.  i do like the texas hold 'em but all the rest were blah.

There are plenty of great apps in the Android Market. All you really have to do is search for 'em, and you'll find plenty on Sudoku. Now, as far as Baseball, Football, and Golf-- I'm not so sure. You can check it in either the Sports/Games Section.

If you want some personal suggestions, I say go look at Buka, Totemo, and Radiant all made by Hexage. Wonderful games that really take advantage of Android hardware.

There are some brilliant apps in the Android market because many developers really put their time into it. You just gotta find them :smileyhappy:

Remember, Android has only been out one year or so and only T-Mobile had the phone in the US... and of course the European Hero. Now that Sprint and Verizon have Android, you'll see more apps flooding in and better quality apps as well.

Then when AT&T gets the phone.  Man oh man the two largest networks get envolved and imagine the flood of apps.

This. Just a few more months, and we have ourselves a winner. I honestly think that the Apps on Android really are worth while.

so then we would be seeing more mainstream games coming to the android platform?

i want the droid but i also like Madden NFL, a little golf, maybe call of duty (honestly i think that would destroy the screen if i dont get a good screen protector). but with the touch features it would be ashame not to utilize its features to the fullest.

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the DROID is capable of playing such games, one large problem that developers face is actually different screen resolutions for different phones. The Droid's screen resolution, and color display, allow it to pretty much play any game the Iphone can.

Ah this is a limitation of Android which they are currently working on fixing.  Expect the next release (2.1 or whatever) to include installing apps to sd cards.  That will give you the ability to have huge freaking monstrosoties like you are talking about.  Some of those are probably 10 or more meg which Some of them might be 100 I don't really know.  The iPhone has all internal memory currently for security's sake Android doesn't have this and they haven't had a phone come out yet that combines huge Rom with sd.  Personally I see sd as an advantage but then again I don't have massive amounts of media so 16 gig built in would be fine with me but changing sd's is cool.  It will be cooler when larger games are useable for people like you that enjoy those things.  Personally I just want my music and some videos on there and I have plenty of room for the apps I want on the 256mb the phone will have.
