Another HTC One microphone issue

I'm on my second HTC One with the same problem - nobody can hear me talking to them when I hold the phone normally. Speakerphone, bluetooth and wired headsets all work fine. I sat on hold with Verizon tech support for 45 mins on Saturday and my call was never answered. This is getting a little ridiculous now.

Has anyone had any success getting a non-HTC One replacement phone to solve this problem? I really don't want to sit on the phone with tech support while they make me do a factory reset on my phone, again, just to determine that it is indeed a hardware issue. Come on, Verizon, this is a known issue with the phone. Please help us out so we can use our phones!

I know your time is valuable, B44. We definitely want your device working properly! Did this start immediately after activation or did it start some time after?  The HTC One has two microphones and it's fairly common for customers to accidently cover one or both with a case or even your hand. There's one on the bottom end next to the micro usb port and another on the back of the phone near the upper right hand corner. If you have a case on your phone, I'd like you to remove it and test the audio without it.

Thanks for the response. It has pretty much been going on the whole time.

I've tried removing the case and carefully holding the phone on the edges

so as not to block either of the microphones and the problem persists. The

same was true with the first one I had. I'd really just like to be able to

speak normally on the phone without having to switch it to speaker. I'm

afraid that if I get another HTC One it's going to have the same problem.

I appreciate the breakdown. I actually use the HTC One and I have not had any problems with the microphone. We would need to replace your phone with the same make and model.

It can't be a faulty mic. The speakerphone uses the same mic as if you were on a normal call.

ChaunceyM_VZW,

I love everything else about the phone but was just hoping it could be

replaced by a different model of similar value - like a Galaxy S4. However,

if there are no other options, then I'll have to give it a shot with

another HTC One. Is there any way to expedite the process so I don't have

to sit through the same troubleshooting steps with tech support again?

Thanks.

Tidbits,

I agree. Besides the fact that they use the same mic, it's unlikely that

it's faulty because it always works fine for the first 30 seconds or so and

then it fades out. Switching speakerphone on and then off again also fixes

the problem for a short period of time.

Seems like a software issue. Have you tried a factory reset and not installing anything or setting up any accounts and seeing if the problem persists. If it stops then something backup or application you are installing is causing conflicts.

I have tried that and I tried booting in safe mode. Neither solved the problem.

Maybe see and check with HTC to get the factory RUU and try reflashing the firmware.
