I was having the same problem of loosing 3g. Today i lost 3g and it never came back. i worked for 3 hrs on this and finally ended up in this forum. i tried shut down and battery pull several times and this did not help. After reading darkdominos post I uninstalled advanced task killer powered off and when I powered up I immediately had 3g network. I have had this installed on my droid for at least a year with no obvious problems. By the way when I would link up via wi-fi because of 3g failure it would connect and randomly loose connection. all is fine for now.

Just got the Samsung Fascinate.  I've been having the same issues the past week (going from 3G to 1x and then not being able to get back to 3G without a reboot).  Happened randomly - sometimes at home (where I'm almost right on top of the Verizon cell tower) - sometimes at work - sometimes when I'm out.  It never seemed to happen in the same place or under the same circumstances, but lately it's been happening every time I try to use my phone.

Solution (possibly):

I noticed this started after I downloaded Juice Defender, but after reading here I removed ATK (Advanced Task Killer) instead to see if that would resolve the problem.  I immediately shot up to 3G coverage even without a reboot and I've had reliable 3G coverage ever since (2 hours, a record lately).

I'm wondering if ATK - which otherwise seems to be a reliable app - doesn't play well with others?

If this doesn't resolve the issue for me I will post here again.  If it does I may or may not come back to confirm (I'm lazy!).  :smileyhappy:

EDITED - Cleaned up my English a bit.  lol

I've had the Droid 2 Global and the Droid X and I lose 3G late in the evenings and occasionally at other times during the day. I reboot the phone and that usually takes care of it. One night I rebooted it and it didn't work, took the battery out and restarted it and nothing worked. I looked in my settings and it was trying to establish a data connection but could only connect to 1X for brief periods. It seems like a Verizon thing.....I never had any 3G issues with my original Droid and with Alltel before that.

ATK doesn't play nice with Android 2.2 and up since Froyo and 2.3 have internal task managers that work on their own. I downloaded ATK when I got my Droid 2 a while ago and it really messed with the phone. After I removed it, it was fine. But recently, I'm having 3G issues again. Read my above post. = )

having this same exact problem. never had an issue with the 3g until today. noticed it earlier in the day when i was out to dinner, but thought maybe the building was concrete. but when i got home, and have always has 3g at home, i still had nothing. i can get on wifi and use the apps that use 3g, but i still want my 3g back. once i leave my house, the wifi will go out the window. i dont have a task killer,  and i deleted all the apps that i dont use, privacy settings was on, i turned it off, nothing seems to be working. even my husband, who is a genius at fixing electronics gave up. cant call verizon cuz they are closed until the morning, so was trying to figure it out on my own. it did this 1 other time when i first got it activated, and i switched from global to cdma, and back to global and it picked it up agian. even that isnt working. im wondering if it has anything to do with the 2.1 version. this is the 1st problem ive had since updating, but just curious. trying to figure something out.

My husband and I both have the LG Vortex and have had this problem since the Android upgrade (2.2.2).

For me, my 3G icon disappeared from my pull down and was replaced with the airplane icon.  Verizon suggested I download the MySetting app as a quick way to navigate to the data on/off button, since I am on a limited data plan. However if I check to make sure it is on, I still cannot connect.  In the end I have to power down my phone and turn it back on.

It does not seem to be linked to location or apps. I truly believe this is a Verizon problem.  I am surprised they have not responded to any comments in this forum. This is quite annoying - If I could go back to a previous version of Android I would be happy.  My phone doesn't give me the option of saying no to the upgrades.

Hi there!

Having the same issue here.  I have a Palm Pre Plus and my wife has a Droid type phone.  (Can't remember what it is at the moment.).  We are getting FULL signal and then nothing.  Dropping the same call 8 times in 10 minutes!!  We are in west-central Mass in Northampton.  Verizon must be having problems today.  Can't call them because I have no signal and can't seem to find the ONLINE CHAT.

Hello ASGobin,

Sorry to hear about your 3G issues on your device. May I ask when did you do the update on your Vortex? Have you done a factory reset after the software upgrade. I know that the device automatically does one, but I recommend a manual factory reset to ensure that all issues have been resolve. If I can ask you to do that & retest. If the issue persist, please reply promptly so we can find an alternative way to reach you for advanced troubleshooting.

Hope this helps...
