BOGO not fair

Was told buy one, get one for upgrade only to be told a new line needs to be added?  Not what we are told or what you are lead onto believing.  Good customers but considering a switch.

I understand you're frustrated, but if you read the fine print of the deal (there is always fine print to any "deal") you'd have seen that you are required to have a second line.

You'll also see that you are in fact signing up for a payment plan with the 2nd device as well, you must fill out a rebate form and will receive a prepaid Visa card in the mail for the full retail price of the phone (you're responsible for the sales tax). You are also required to keep the lines active, for 6 months (not sure what the penalty would be if you don't).

Unfortunately, it's not like a buy one get one at a grocery store, these are expensive devices, and there are some hoops you must jump through, but if you do jump through them, you essentially get away with only paying the sales tax on the 2nd phone, plus your monthly line access charge.

You don't get to walk out with a second phone free of charge to resell it and make the first phone cost almost nothing (unfortunately). While it can be tedious to fill out a rebate, unfair is not something I would call this deal, the terms are all outlined clearly.

Not my intentions at all...we have two lines, both due for upgrades,

wanting the 7 or 7S. What is best way to go?

I'm not sure what you mean by "7 or 7S" so I will assume you meant that you were wanting the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge (not the iPhone 7 which is rumored to be released later this year).

Seeing as you have two lines, both eligible for upgrades this buy one get one deal doesn't exactly work for you, as the terms state you must add a new line.

Of course, you could cancel one of your lines and simply add a new one to replace it and get the free phone, that is a perfectly legal way to do the deal, the downside being that a phone number change would occur.

The alternative is to purchase the devices seperately for each line.

To take advantage of the BOGO, current Verizon customers have to activate at least 1 new line of service. The lines must stay active for 6 months. You COULD get the BOGO and activate both of the new phones on your current lines of service. You could then move one of your current phones to the new line of service and just not use it for 6 months at which time you could then simply cancel the line. Total increased cost would be a $20 line access fee x 6 months = $120. You would most likely have to pay off the balance of one of the phones at the time of cancellation, though.

You DO realize you are entering into a device payment plan for each of the 2 phones? Once you fill out the necessary information for the promotion, you will THEN receive a prepaid Visa card for the amount of the lesser priced phone after 8-10 weeks. Of course you would have to make payments on both phones while you are waiting for the prepaid Visa card.

Another option which may or may not work is to get the BOGO and activate one the phones on 1 of your current lines. Activate the other phone on your new line of service. You could THEN cancel one of your current lines of service and simply use the new line of service. I can't tell you whether or not the "lines must remain active for 6 months" is in effect for other lines on your account NOT associated with the BOGO as it is not specified. Since it does not specify that it DOESN'T apply to all lines on your account, it possibly could. That is a chance you would have to take. One other downside to this option would be that one of the people getting a new phone will also have to get a new number and notify all of their contacts about the new number.
