Background app running

How do I keep an app I want running in the background. Example is xm radio app. It turns off every 2 minutes.

if you have a phone with doze, it essentially goes to sleep to conserve battery life when you set it down & thee's no way to turn it off.

edatlanta, Let's keep your music playing. What model phone do you have? What does the screen show when it shuts off your app? Does this happen with any radio app?
