My Droid 4 was updated last week and it has been a constant problem keeping it alive since. Battery consumption is out of control. With a full charge on it it will almost last two hours. If I put it to sleep it wakes up on its own after a few minutes. Today has been worse than ever. While hooked up to a charger it still ran itself flat and cannot be charged to the point where it will start running again.

How does one accomplish a 'factory reset'?

To reset, go to Settings>Privacy>Factory Reset

This will delete all data on your phone (but not on your SD card unless you choose to), apps you have paid for will be redownloaded automatically.

This will NOT return your phone to Gingerbread if you are on ICS.  If problems persist, it might be that an app you are using hasn't been updated to work well with ICS.  You can try uninstalling apps one by one to track this down if that is the case.

I have a Droid Maxx - really liked the phone with gingerbread.  It's a piece of stuff with ice cream sandwich.  NO external speaker all call just vibrate, no external speaker for handsfree talk either.  It will link the call to my bluetooth but will NOT allow media sounds to be sent to internal or external speaker, battery life shorter with ics, about a two day life on standby vs the four to four and a half day life with gingerbread.  Pretty much a brick now, which I could have bought for 37 cents at Lowes.  Verison NO HELP WHATSOEVER.  They should be sued for such a shameful excuse for an upgrade that can be reversed.  I noticed they could care less and still bill the same outlandish fees every month without fail.  I used to recomend Verison, Now tell people to run not walk to a different carrier if they have the choice.

Presumably still in the warranty period, right?  Did you ask for a replacement?  You will get a refurb, but if your phone really is pretty much a brick, a refurb would be better.

I was able to download and install it on a first try. In total, took about 45 minutes.

All is well. I'm liking the ICS 4.0.4. I not seeing an issue like battery draining or high cpu usage.

The only app removed was Adobe Flash.

I am having the same issue. I loved my phone until Friday when i upgraded to ICS it completely drained the battery and now I have to plug it in to charge it where ever I go. So effectively Verizon has removed the mobile from Mobile phone. I have to carry a charger, and not just a usb cable because the goddamn thing drains the battery faster than the usb can charge it, so it has to e a wall charger. Also it gets hot so I had to remove the case I payed 40 buck for. The only way i can get the battery to 100% is to turn it off and charge it but whats the point of having it then. Before the "upgrade" I didn't have to be tethered power outlet but now it plugged in all the time.

I suppose this will force everyone to buy the external battery the pushy sales man  at there store was trying to get me to buy. Makes you wonder if this was intentional.

Constantly charging batteries shortens their life so effectively they are shortening the life cycle of the device so they can sell us a new phone sooner. I smell a scam.

A factory reset solved 80% of my problems. Battery life is still an issue, but not as bad as before the reset. I now can get 6-8 hours of life with "normal" use, and the phone no longer gets warm when it's just idling.  However, if I use the browser extensively, the phone gets warm and the battery drains quickly. This never happened with gingerbread.

ICS clearly was pushed out before it was ready. There's a bug that needs to be addressed. But to fix some of the worst problems, try a factory reset.

No. Check the boards. The GB update cause problems that didn't resolve for near a month. Motorola had to step in. This ICS problem is the same thing. They update. Then tell you to do a factory reset. If that doesnt help (didnt with mine) you are screwed. A factory refurb is not a solution if a factory reset doesnt help. Bad software is bad software

Well, SOME people reported problems.  I was in the soak test for this release and for me it worked fine.   My mantra: on every single phone and every single update, search various forums and you will find many many posts that fall into two types: "X broke my phone" and "Wow, best thing ever".   Many of the first type ARE helped by a factory reset but not all.  A lot of the remaining issues are often caused by apps that haven't been updated, and sometimes, by a painful process of removing and installing individually, the cause can be found.

Of course, sometimes there really are issues, the D4 ICS release had bugs fixed that had shown up in earlier Razr releases.

So the bad software is only bad software for some, which doesn't of course help if you are impacted and can't get it fixed.

Unfortunately, this is a no-win situation for Moto/Verizon!  Look at all the complaints about "Where is ICS for my model X"

(and now "Where is JellyBean")?  As has been predicted on many forums, some percentage of the most active "Give it to me NOW!!!" users are the biggest complainers "It broke my phone"  Of course, ideally all releases would be quick and bug-free, but that doesn't happen in the real world.  Perhaps better would be some way of declining the update on a long term basis, carriers don't like this as they want all versions of one phone to be on the same release.

Being able to revert to a previous release after trying the update would also be nice, but that's not the way things are designed now

Updated it yesterday. Hasn't worked correctly, yet. Doesn't charge. No alarms. No emails. No texts. Battery is smoking hot. I can't even turn it on anymore.

Tech support basically said I was SOL!!! They will send me a new phone. That doesn't really help considering I need my phone for business and am getting on a plane in 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!! How do I get reimbursed for my time and missed business opportunities considering it is their fault!!!!! This sucks.
