I dropped my Droid Eris in some kool-laid.  How long should I let it dry out?  Or will it be ruined forever?

Pray you got insurance if not prepare to get some $$$ out of your wallet to buy a new one.

Take the battery out immediately, shake out all the liquid you can.

If it was submerged and you KNOW it was soaked all the way through with normal sugared koolaid, PERSONALLY, what I would do is get some distilled water and dunk it a few times in that... It's probably ruined already, but the sugar in the koolaid will definitely keep water attracted to it and will ruin it for sure...

Shake out all the water or koolaid you can.  If you go through the distilled water routine, shake it out, rinse it, shake agian, repeat a few times... If it's totally wet inside, making it wetter isn't possible, but distilled water won't contain any minerals that could cause shorting later on.

Once it's cleaned out, and shaken out, use a warm hari dryer to start with, and get some dessicant crystals (used for drying flowers.) from a craft/hobby store, and put the phone in those in a sealed container for a couple of days to completely dry it out... same with the battery, again rinsing if it got wet wtth koolaid/sugar.

After a couple of days in the dessicant, in a warm spot, try re-assembling and see if it works.

Good luck

In the absence of silica gel (dessicant), you can leave the phone in a bowl of rice to accomplish the same thing (do I even have to mention "Uncooked rice"??).

Follow my steps and possibly your phone may work again.  Otherwise if it does not, if you have insurance on the phone then you can get a new phone. Warranty will not cover the phone since water voids the terms. You could also try a new battery in the phone & that *may* make the phone work again. I know when I got my phone wet before it wouldn't work properly. Then tried a new battery for the phone. It worked fine then.

(1) IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE BATTERY. VERY VERY IMPORTANT!
(2) As soon as possible (preferably within 20-30 minutes). dissassemble the phone using Torx T6 screwdriver. (Get this off eBay or service depots, etc) Make an emergency trip to Sears/RadioShack/ACE/service depot/etc.
(3) Clean/dry as much as you can, using Q-Tips
(4) Dry the electronics components under a desk lamp on a paper towel for 24 hours.
(5) Use a blow dryer, set on warm. Blow dry the phone. Make sure your battery and sim card are out of the phone.

(6) You can also leave the battery and sim out. Leave your phone out in the sun. Let it dry.
(7) Put your phone in rice for 24 hours w/ battery and sim out
(8) Reassemble the phone
(9) Put back together
(10) Only now it's safe to put the battery back in.

ake the back off the phone, take the battery out, and using a hair dryer, let it sit about 6-8 inches away from the phone and on high blast let it dry your phone for at least an hour and a half or more depending on how long your phone was submerged and how much liquid got inside the phone. mine fell into a tub, and i took it out and did what i suggested to you, and then placed it on my nightstand overnite. the next day i tried turning my phone on, it wouldnt power up, then i plugged it in, and it started up, come to find out that the battery had died out but trecharged an has been running strong every since. Hope this helps

My Samsung Rogue was maliciously attacked by a cocktail as well. Unfortunately it was ruined for good. I tried a lot of the suggestions above, but I think the fact that it was also in a sugary drink and I didn't re-rinse with regular water, that might have been my downfall. It turned on a little bit later that night, but by the next day it was gone.

I think i might have spilt some alcoholic beverage on my phone (just a little) when I was in a bar. But phone remained to work after.

Are you saying you lost more brain cells than the phone did that night?  :smileywink:
