I use Google Maps as it came on the Eris and my GPS works just fine on the road.
While working at home this morning, I just now went to it and it bounced around quite a bit, showing 2 incorrect locations nearby before it finally settled on the (pretty much) exact location of my house. I have a bunch of tall trees in my yard and a metal roof. My XM radios have a really hard time in the yard outside and forget about working in the house with no external outdoor antenna. So I'm amazed that it worked at all while sitting on my desk.
So I really have no help to offer, other than the several times I've the Eris GPS while traveling, it's been as good as the Garmin (without the female voice that scares the crap outta you after you've been riding ont he interstate for a good while and it/she suddenly announces an upcoming turn!!)).
Good luck, Geri O

When using ur gps u need to turn on some other functions for the gps to work. U need to go to ur location&security in settings and activate the use wireless connection. This will help to pinpoint ur location better. Then go to ur privacy setting and activate the Use My Location setting. This too will help. If the prob is on the eris, u may need to find the similar settings on that phone to make it work.
My guess as to why u need all these is that these phones r too small to handle the hardware so it can use all the satelites necessary like a garmin does.
make sure that both settings are activated because i know that i can activate mine indoors but unless i have both items in red above it will list my position at least a couple houses down.

if both options are chosen then you might have a problem and have to get it exchanged or something
