Extension on phone number

When calling from my contacts any phone number with an extension becomes an international call. How do I set up contacts to include extensions and avoid this issue?

You can add a "hard pause" (how to do that depends on what phone you have, it's typically a w or ; ) after the 10 digit number, then the extension number.  It will dial the first 10 digits, then wait for you to press send to enter the extension when the time comes.

Sometimes, 3-5 soft pauses will do the trick, too.
