In the past 2 days, Samsung accidentally let slip that it was coming to VZW in a tweet. So, VZW caught wind, chides them for announcing that before the VZW announcement. Samsung retracts their comment, replaces it, denying that any carrier is already set to receive it here in the US. Tech. sights report that VZW may not get it, geekdom panics. Less than 24 hrs. later, VZW issues the first "official" press release. Will Verizon ever not shoot themselves in the foot, at least once, in their PR campaigns for the big upcoming releases. Their marketing choices, just baffle the hell outta me. Don't cry troll, I say this as a longtime, relatively satisfied customer of Big Red.

I think Verizon had to do something, seeing as there were petitions started, and it was starting to trend on Twitter.  People were getting upset listening to the rumours.

I just wish they would announce new phones like they used to...remember the OG Droid.  They started the campaign a good month before it was released.  Now, they just try to surprise everyone.  Imagine if movies or video games did this.

Oh well, November 10th isn't too long of a wait, then I can give my mother my DX2 (she is still using an OG Droid).

I doubt seriously that they were FORCED into getting and releasing the Galaxy Nexus. In this area, they are pretty smart. I don't know why they didn't release the Nexus 1, but this time around, I think the Galaxy S 2 came along and they said "Nah, we want the next step up", which included a phone with 4G LTE, something the crop of SGS2s didn't have. All of the petitions were probably days late and dollars short. They didn't come up with that phone in just a month...

As for their recent marketing campaigns, OMG, where to start? It's like 2nd graders running it. Maybe they should call "Suzie", the lemonade girl in the Verizon business solutions commercials. They showed her to have it together. Whomever created those ads needs to handle the phone release ads, perhaps. The commercials for the Bionic look like the producers made the ads with a gun to their heads...

And before anyone starts, the Apple iPhone ads aren't any better, but at least they don't appear to be ashamed of the phone already...

imho I don't think Verizon said "No" to the Nexus One.  Google was the one that miffed.  They stated that they were going to bring it to all carriers.  The Nexus One only roughly sold compared to the Droid or some of the older phones for that matter.  People were complaining about the fact the devices were subsidized TWICE and Google had their own Terms of Sale like any 3rd party retailer.  They opted in not to make the CDMA version, and recommended people get something else.  It wasn't selling well enough and honestly there wasn't a real big demand for it.

i agree that the original droid's ad campaign was awesome. heck...i wanted one and didn't even know what it (or android) was!!! but it's just pointless to market these like that one now. every month there is a new android on every carrier. i believe that the average user chooses their device based on when their upgrade comes up. "most" users don't follow what is coming out soon, or the difference in hardware specs, etc, etc. i believe that most of them walk into a store, when they are upgrade eligible, and choose between the 3-4 most recently released androids.

if they really wanted to market any of these, they could simply put their device next to an iphone, and show what it can do, that the iphone can't. i have yet to see an ad like that, which would be the most effective if you ask me.
