I need to unlock my daughter's S6 and she will not give me the password. Is there another way to unlock it with out doing a hard reset?

No. If she cannot produce the PIN or Pattern or Password, you'll have to factory reset it to access it...for which there will be nothing left to access after a FDR.

If the device has Factory Reset Protection enabled the password will be required even after the factory reset. Here is more info: How do I use Factory Reset Protection (FRP) to protect my device?

Great question! If you have access to the Google account associated with the device then you can unlock it through that.
